The ability to change is true of the young brain, the aging brain, and the injured brain!  It takes a lot longer in the injured brain.

Twitchell’s observations and predictions were accurate, but somewhat limited by the emergency care of stroke and the rehabilitation tools available at the time.  Unfortunately, they also resulted in a self-fulfilling prophecy:
“Since improvement is not expected, let’s not work toward more improvement.” 

To this I say, BUNK!!  Our knowledge base has increased, the tools available for rehabilitation have proliferated, and our society has come to expect more. ~ Anne Burleigh Jacobs, PT, PhD.
